Build a snow creature
13th March 10

Build a snow creature

There have been reports of settling, even drifting, and you know what that means…? Tomorrow is a SNOW DAY! To celebrate, the love of it challenges you to build the most imaginative snow creatures and sculptures the world has ever seen. We want to see your snow zombies, snow monsters, snowy replicas of Jon Snow… oh and we want to see your snow forts, impenetrable snow forts. And castles. Read More »

Have a monster swap
13th March 10

Have a monster swap

Making a monster is child’s play. Follow our guide to making cuddly creatures out of fabric scraps or an old scarf, turn a teddy bear inside out then sew him back up again, or get splicing and sew the head and neck of a beanie giraffe onto a penguin’s body. Swap your monster with a friend and send us a photo of the little critter in his/her new home. Paint with light
13th March 10

Paint with light

Painting with light is a really fun photography technique that gives great results but is so easy to try. Pop your camera on a tripod (or rest it on a wall), set it to a slow shutter speed and start experimenting. Use your imagination, set off into the city and play. Read More »

Have an indoor picnic

Wait for a miserably rainy day, push back the sofas, lay down a blanket and invite your friends over for cream tea. Or bridge those boundaries and whip out a gingham rug on the train to work and invite your fellow commuters to join you for a scone or book a meeting room and invite your colleagues to eat their butties together at an office picnic. 365 days, 365 photos
13th March 10

365 days, 365 photos

Our events editor Steph Wetherell has just had a gem of an idea: “In 2010 I’m going to take a photograph every day, and build up a record of a year through those snapshots. Each photo represents a moment, a place, a memory. Put together, it forms a bigger picture of the year as a whole. Read More »

Things to do without electricity

When I was a kid I was amazed how many people assumed you needed to buy the game to play it, not realising that often you just need pencil and paper. They’d rather buy some tacky plastic game or watch TV than make their own fun! I’m of the play-it-on-paper or build-your-own-game tribe. Read More »

Write a bucket list

Put aside an hour this week to scribble down your ultimate ‘things to do before you die’ list. Where in the world do you want to go, what sights do you want to see, what books do you want to read and what adventures do you want to go on? Read More »
