So you’ve heard talk about International Home Made HobNob Day and wondering what it’s all about? Well, luckily the love of it is here with our very own guide to Home Made HobNob Day…
The History
3 years ago, loveofitSteph became frustrated that there weren’t any international days honouring the humble biscuit. She also discovered the joy of the homemade HobNob. Added to this, she had an essay deadline and thus procrastination was high on the agenda. And thus this wonderous day was created.
Over the last couple of years, it’s gone from strength to strength, with hundreds of people across the world participating and spreading the baked joy. Here’s one of my favourites.
In 2012, Home Made HobNob Day is taking place on 7th January (a Saturday), with HobNob eve (a day to share the biscuity joy with your work colleagues) landing on Friday 6th January. RSVP to the facebook event to make sure you don’t miss it…
The Idea
Home Made HobNob Day basically exists to bring a bit of happiness and joy into people’s days.

1) Make homemade HobNobs
As simple as it sounds. The making of homemade hobnobs is pretty straightforward – follow the recipe here. Try adding some of your own twists:
- Add some coconut to the mix.
- Spread chocolate on top.
- Maybe some raisins or a pinch of ginger.
Experiment and share your culinary triumphs with us all.
2) Eat homemade HobNobs
Open mouth. Bite into HobNob. Chew. Swallow. Appreciate the awesomeness of the homemade HobNob. Repeat.
3) Share homemade HobNobs
There are a variety of different ways to do this – use your imagination! Maybe take some round to your neighbours or to the local cornershop. Post some to someone you haven’t seen in a while. Surprise a housemate. Have a tea party and invite all your friends. Hand out some to strangers on the street.
Last year featured a mass HobNob Handout in Bristol, with hundreds of biscuits being handed to strangers on the street, bring smiles and a mid afternoon snack to unsuspecting passers by. HobNob handouts were also reported in London, Bath and West Wales…
How to Take Part
First, tell all your friends about HobNob Day – the best way is to RSVP to the facebook event, and then invite all your friends to do the same. Tweet about it, shout about it, maybe even do a dance about it.
I’d really love the HobNob joy to spread as far as possible and track how many countries we reach this year, so if you’re baking outside the UK, then please let me know.
Here’s some photos of what people have got upto over the last couple of years…
